Petaling Jaya · Movement Service
I brought in a 1974 Seiko automatic that had been running about two minutes fast per day. The assessment took about 20 minutes and was done in front of me — I was shown exactly what was being looked at. The movement service took just under five weeks. The timing results before and after were printed and handed over with the watch. It's now running within ten seconds a day across five positions, which is better than it managed when new by all accounts. Happy enough to bring the second piece in later this year.

Subang Jaya · Case Refinishing
The case on my mother's Omega had been wheel-polished years ago at another place and looked quite rounded and soft. I wanted to know whether the brushed finish on the lugs could be brought back at all. The honest answer I got was "partially, but not to original". That was probably not what I was hoping to hear, but it was straightforward and I appreciated it. I said to go ahead with what was possible and the result was noticeably better. The turnaround was about three weeks as stated.

Shah Alam · Collection Assessment
I had seven watches and no real idea of what condition most of them were in or when any of them had last been serviced. The collection assessment was thorough — everything was tested, photographed, and written up. The plan was clear about what needed work soon and what could wait two or three years. I ended up booking the movement service on two of the pieces immediately. The inventory document alone was worth the cost: reference numbers, serials, photographs, timing results in one place. I'll be using this for insurance purposes as well.

ETA 2892-A2 in a Longines. The reversing wheel had some wear and the mainspring was original — so replacing both made sense. The parts list showed exactly what was used with the supplier origin noted. Six weeks total. I've used larger service centres in KL before and the turnaround was faster, but the documentation here was considerably more complete. The 12-month coverage is also something the bigger places don't offer in writing.

Bangsar · Case Refinishing
My husband's Rolex Datejust had a badly scratched bracelet. I was expecting a price significantly higher than RM 690, so that was a pleasant surprise. The appointment was quick to arrange by phone. The work took about two and a half weeks. The clasp is noticeably tighter now and the bracelet links sit more evenly. The case polishing is clean — I can see the difference between the brushed and polished sections again. I took one star off only because parking on Jalan Gasing can be tricky on Saturdays.

A 1968 Tissot automatic — the calibre is Swiss, pre-ETA consolidation era. Finding someone willing to work on it properly was not easy. Tickfold Atelier agreed to assess it without promising anything. The mainspring and crown wheel were replaced; the barrel bridge staff was fine. The watch now runs about minus four seconds per day in dial-up position, which is within spec for the movement age. The written summary explained every finding. That kind of transparency is not something I've encountered at other workshops here.

Case studies
Three jobs in detail
Case study 01 · Movement Service
The situation
A 1981 Citizen automatic inherited from a relative. No service history was available. The movement was running approximately +90 seconds per day in dial-up position and the rotor felt slightly rough when rotated by hand.
What was done
Full teardown, ultrasonic clean, mainspring replaced (original was set), rotor axle bearing replaced, re-lubricated and regulated across six positions over two weeks. Power reserve increased from 28 hours to 40 hours.
Outcome
Post-service timing: +6 seconds per day in dial-up, -3 in crown-down. Handover included a printed timing sheet for all positions and a parts list. Total time: 4 weeks. Cost: RM 1,600.
"I wasn't sure the watch was worth the cost of servicing. It was — and now I know exactly what was done to it."
Case study 02 · Case Refinishing
The situation
A mid-1990s Tudor Black Bay with heavy scratch accumulation on the case sides. The bracelet had developed a degree of stretch and two pins were noticeably loose. The client wanted the case brought back without removing the watch's "worn character" on the bezel and dial area.
What was done
Case sides refinished by hand — brushed grain restored to factory direction. Polished chamfers on lugs re-cut. Bezel and dial-adjacent surfaces left untouched per the client's instruction. Bracelet links tightened, two worn pins replaced, clasp alignment corrected.
Outcome
Visible scratches on the case sides removed. Grain texture consistent across all brushed surfaces. Bracelet sits flat with no perceptible slop. Bezel retains its patina. Total time: 18 days. Cost: RM 690.
"The case sides look like a different watch. The bezel still looks like mine. That's exactly what I asked for."
Case study 03 · Collection Assessment
The situation
A client with nine pieces, some inherited, some purchased over the years. No records of purchase dates, service history, or reference numbers for most of the collection. Two pieces had not been wound in over two years. Uncertain which to prioritise for service.
What was done
All nine pieces were photographed, reference and serial numbers recorded, timed on a Witschi timing machine, and where rated, pressure-tested. A written plan was produced and a digital inventory compiled. Storage and winding guidance issued for the humidity levels in the client's apartment.
Outcome
Two pieces recommended for movement service (one within 6 months, one within 18). Three required no immediate action. Four were within acceptable range. The client booked one service immediately; the second was deferred. Six-month follow-up consultation scheduled. Cost: RM 4,200.
"I came in uncertain about all nine. I left knowing exactly where each one stands. That's the kind of clarity I needed."
